Northside Community Recreation Centre
The Lund Community Recreation Centre is a cultural and social landmark, designed to honor the rich heritage and natural beauty of the region. Thoughtfully integrated with the existing structure, a covered outdoor space creates a seamless transition between old and new, fostering connection and continuity.
Inside, a welcoming lobby leads to a state-of-the-art gymnasium with a multi-purpose stage, offering a dynamic space for sports, performances, and gatherings. A versatile commercial kitchen enhances the centre’s role as a hub for community events.
At the heart of the design, five striking wooden pillars stand adorned with intricate carvings by local artisans, celebrating the craftsmanship and artistic traditions of the region. A unique light clay wall, built by the community, extends from the exterior into the interior at the entrance, symbolizing connection and continuity while adding warmth and texture to the space. A stained glass feature casts warm hues of ochre, copper, and orange throughout the interior, echoing the surrounding landscape.
The Lund Community Recreation Centre is more than just a building—it is a gathering place, a celebration of community, and a testament to the power of collaborative design.
